Can you legally buy cannabis in Mallorca?
According to Spanish law, the consumption, possession, purchase and sale of cannabis is prohibited and punishable in Mallorca. The trade in cannabis is always considered illegal throughout Spain.
Possession of 100 grams of cannabis or 25 grams of hashish is only allowed for personal consumption in private premises or for collective consumption in licensed cannabis clubs.
So, Cannabis can be purchased completely legally in these social clubs.
What exactly are cannabis social clubs in Spain?
Spanish social clubs are private cannabis associations where the purchase and consumption of marijuana are legal. Access to and use of these clubs is restricted to their members only and is not open to the public.
Can you legally smoke marijuana in cannabis social clubs?
Yes! Similar to private premises, smoking pot is allowed in these establishments.
Can you legally buy marijuana at cannabis social clubs?
Yeas! The clubs supply themselves with marijuana by growing it themselves or buying it and distributing it among their own members in private and closed circles. It is about self-consumption with like-minded people, without economic interests.
The price paid for marijuana serves exclusively to cover the costs of production, as the operators usually grow the weed themselves. In addition, of course, the administrative costs of the club have to be covered.
What does a Spanish social club look like?
Of course, there is no uniform line as far as the ambience is concerned. Often, a lounge-like space with a feel-good character awaits you.
But entertainment is also happily provided, from the Playstation to the pool table, everything is on offer.
Are these cannabis associations legal?
Private Social Clubs on Mallorca are in compliance with the law, since the self-consumption of cannabis takes place in rooms that are neither public, nor openly accessible. The members smoke pot mainly for therapeutic or recreational purposes, so it is not assumed that a crime is committed.
Clubs are not permitted by law to advertise their facility in any way.
Since the entrance for walk-in customers is also strictly prohibited, the social clubs on Mallorca are not even recognizable as such from the outside. In most cases, they are so inconspicuous that it would be difficult to find them even if you were looking for them.
The anonymity of the community also plays a big role.
How do cannabis social clubs in Mallorca actually work?
The clubs are run by their founding members, who are private individuals who want to provide a community service to cannabis users.
The facilities are generally inaccessible to the public.
To gain access to a Spanish social club, you first have to join the club. To do so, you have to be at least 18, usually even 21 years old.
Members can visit the facility at any time during opening hours and do what is otherwise only allowed in private premises, namely smoking pot.
In addition to the legal consumption of cannabis, it is also possible to buy it legally in the club. There are certain quantities that may not be exceeded. Usually, this is 2 to 3 grams of marijuana per day.
The grass offered for sale is mostly home-grown, and the purchases usually come from home growers on the island.
How to join a Cannabis Social Club
To become a member of such an association, one must first be of age, i.e. at least 18 years old. In some clubs, the minimum age is also set at 21.
Membership is obtained either by recommendation from an existing member, or by direct invitation from the club.
At first, it sounds as if it is almost impossible to be accepted into such a weed association on the island without the appropriate contacts.

Can I join a social club as a tourist?
Legal residence can be a criterion for joining a social club. Each club has the option to include certain exclusions in its constitution.
Here, for example, it can be stipulated that members must be resident on the island, or anyone who is resident elsewhere will be excluded from joining.
